If you’re like me, you probably dread wash day. It seems like such a chore to have to wash and condition my hair every week.
But it’s a necessary evil if I want to keep my curls looking their best. In this blog post, I will share with you my 4c hair washday routine.
This routine has worked well for me, and it may work well for you too!
4c Hair Washday Routine
Start With a Deep Conditioner to Hydrate Your Curls.
- First, I start by detangling my hair. I use a wide-toothed comb to gently remove any knots or tangles.
- Next, I shampoo my hair with a clarifying shampoo. This helps to remove any build-up from styling products or environmental pollutants.
- After shampooing, I condition my hair with a deep conditioner. I leave the conditioner in for about 30 minutes, and then rinse it out thoroughly.
Once my hair is clean and conditioned, it’s time to style! I typically air-dry my 4c curls, but you can also use a diffuser if you prefer. If your hair is prone to frizz, you may want to try a leave-in conditioner or cream before styling.
Once my hair is completely dry, I like to add a little bit of oil to help tame any frizz and give my curls a healthy shine. That’s it! Those are the steps I take to care for my 4c curls on washday. By following this routine, I’m able to keep my hair looking its best. Give it a try and see if it works for you!

Moisturize:
4C hair tends to be dry, so it’s important to moisturize often. Use a water-based leave-in conditioner and/or cream, and seal in the moisture with an oil.
Protective Styles:
Low manipulation styles like braids, twists, and buns can help to reduce breakage and give your hair a chance to grow.
Deep Condition:
Deep conditioning is a must for 4C hair! It helps to hydrate and restore moisture to the hair. Aim for deep conditioning at least once a week, or more if needed.
Handle With Care:
4C hair is fragile, so it’s important to handle it with care. Be gentle when combing and brushing, and avoid using too much heat styling.
Don’t Neglect Scalp Care:
A healthy scalp is key to healthy 4C hair. Be sure to massage the scalp regularly, and use a clarifying shampoo to remove any build-up.
Give Your Ends a Little TLC:
Because 4C hair is prone to dryness, it’s important to pay extra attention to your ends. Trim regularly to get rid of split ends, and use a product like coconut oil to help moisturize the hair.
Trim Regularly:
4C hair tends to split easily, so it’s important to trim regularly. This will help to keep your hair healthy and prevent breakage.
